Age Old Spill

written by Clifton J. Williams

Don’t you look at me with those eyes
Don’t you look at me with your tainted smile
I am not the one that you should blame for this
For I, I go the way of the sun

Seasons change, colors come and they go
Leaves leave the branches, the water flows
Change continuously brings more change
So I suggest that we all learn

All I want is to be a friend to you
But hate’s all I see in your eyes
My friend your words they cut deep through my soul
Skin us to bone, you’d see the same

Lord, won’t you help me
Come sweep away this age old spill

Falling off the edge is a man
With confusion in his eyes and skin
He cannot see the reason why
That I will go and he must stay here

All I want is to be a friend to you
But hate’s all I see in your eyes
My friend your words they cut deep through my soul
Skin us to bone, you’d see the same

Lord, won’t you help me
Come sweep away this age old spill

One thing I would like you to know
Is it was not me that put you there in your state of living
Born uniquely and free and bound by our history
But with you I tried, so don’t blame me

But I understand
